Why We Love Mahjong So Much

We may be a little obsessed with mahjong.

So obsessed, in fact, that we gave it its own room. 

What started as “let’s play a game” somehow turned into, “Should we just dedicate an entire space to this?” The answer was an enthusiastic yes.

Every Thursday, our mahjong room comes to life. The tiles start clicking, someone inevitably says, “Wait…whose turn is it?”, everyone celebrates a big hand, and before you know it, three hours have flown by.

Here’s the thing we don’t just love mahjong because it’s fun (although it most definitely is). We love it because of what happens around the table.

Neighbors become friends. New players realize they don’t have to know all the rules to fit in. Experienced players happily teach beginners. And somehow, every Thursday feels like hanging out with old friends, even if you’ve just met.

Mahjong has a way of slowing life down. Phones stay in purses, conversations get longer, laughter gets louder, and everyone leaves a little happier than when they arrived.

That’s exactly the kind of community we hoped to build at The Collective!!!

So yes, we proudly have a mahjong room. And yes, we’re the people who get way too excited about new tile sets and Thursday game nights.
