Why I Love Football Season

There are a few things that immediately tell me fall has arrived. The mornings are a little cooler, pumpkin-flavored everything suddenly appears, and the familiar sound of football fills the house on Saturdays and Sundays. Around here, football isn’t just something we watch—it’s an excuse to gather, celebrate, and make memories.

As a lifelong Cowboys fan, every season starts with hope. Hope for a winning record, hope for a playoff run, and yes…hope that this is our year. Whether you’re cheering for the Cowboys or your hometown team, football has a way of bringing people together that few other things can.

Some of my favorite weekends aren’t about the final score—they’re about who’s sitting around my kitchen island. Friends stopping by with a side dish, kids running through the house in jerseys, someone asking if there’s more queso, and the smell of something delicious coming out of the oven. That’s what makes football season feel special.

Hosting doesn’t have to be complicated, either. The best gatherings are often the simplest ones. A pot of chili simmering all afternoon, a charcuterie board that’s easy to graze from, sliders, buffalo chicken dip, and a batch of homemade cookies for dessert are usually all it takes. People rarely remember if your napkins matched the décor, but they’ll always remember how welcomed they felt.

I also love using football season as an opportunity to slow down. In a world that feels like it’s always moving, there’s something comforting about spending an afternoon with people you love, sharing good food, laughing over questionable referee calls, and celebrating every touchdown together.

So whether you’re hosting a crowd or simply watching the game with your family, embrace the season. Light your favorite fall candle, pull out the cozy blankets, make a recipe you love, and enjoy the little moments that make this time of year so memorable.
